Wellman Shew is a native of Fresno and a 1981 graduate of Central Union High School and California State University-Fresno with a bachelor's degree in business administration.

His first job in the insurance industry was as a broker for Fresno's Fraser & Associates. Before founding Shew & Company Insurance Services, he worked for Fraser & Associates for eight years before joining other insurance agencies.
